If you have a hankering for a big juicy steak then we've got you covered. Tony's is widely considered to be Auckland's original Steak House and they certainly make the list, but these days Auckland offers a number of other choices. We've done the leg work and present here what we think are the seven best steakhouses in Auckland. Best is obviously a subjective judgement, but based on the menu range, customer reviews and personal experience we think these are the best places to satisfy your steak cravings.
Angus Steak House
Family-owned since 1973, Angus Steak House is the place to go for grass-fed New Zealand Angus beef and lamb from family-operated farms. They also offer seafood and vegetarian options if red meat isn't your preference. Serving lunch and dinner and hosting events and functions, they can accommodate large and small groups for private dining in their loft.
You can pick your own steak and tell the grillmaster how you would like it cooked. The steaks are huge and filling, but be sure to save room for the salad bar, sides, and desserts. The friendly and accommodating staff and reasonable prices are sure to please.

Located in the Wynyard quarter next to Viaduct Harbour, Wynyard Grill is an awesome Auckland steakhouse and wine lounge. It is in the space previously known as Johnny Barr’s American Restaurant Bar & Grill. Some new dishes, such as Beyond Burgers, a truffle swiss melt, and a 28-day aged bone-in ribeye, have been added. Old favorites, like mac ‘n cheese, remain on the menu. And like any good steakhouse they have a great wine list and a good selection of craft beers and cocktails.
Wild game meats, an extensive wine list, fine cheeses from France, Italy, and New Zealand, and seafood are additional highlights. They hold many fun events such as local winemaker evenings, live jazz music (Thursday nights), and other special occasion dinners.

Located in Sky City on Federal Street, The Grill is a 2020 TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice Award winner. They serve tender, pasture-fed meat and sustainable seafood made with locally sourced ingredients. They are open for lunch and dinner and are available for private hire. A private dining area designed by architect Andrew Lister seats up to 20 and the Mezzanine accommodates up to 50 people.
Some specialties are Savannah Angus, 30 day-aged Florentina T-bone, and their famous mac & cheese side. The extensive wine list features wines from all over the world. Be sure to save room for dessert because the chocolate souffle is amazing.

An Auckland favorite, Tony’s Steakhouse has been serving hearty meals for 57 years. They serve aged prime cuts of beef, seafood delicacies, and chef’s specials. All the beef is farm-raised and aged for at least 28 days. They are open for lunch and dinner, and free parking is available if you book ahead. Tony’s Steakaways, a take-out service, is very convenient if you want to enjoy your meal at home.
The menu includes starters, main meals, seafood, pasta, salads, sauces, sides, and desserts. The entrees come with fries and a salad or vegetable. Highly recommended, the Ugly burger is a 300-gram patty of minced fillet steak with caramelized onions, camembert, bacon, lettuce, and tomato in an oversized bun.

Located in the historic Ferry Building, Botswana Butchery is great for a fun and contemporary dining experience. Their diverse and extensive menu features premium meats, seafood, and vegetarian options. They use locally sourced ingredients and premium products. They serve lunch, dinner, and bar snacks, and the main dining room and mezzanine are available for functions.
Ocean views, a plush interior, and modern décor provide a perfect setting for the delicious food prepared by head chef Mark Gillespie. Outdoor seating is available on the terrace. Be sure to check out the extensive list of local wines and specialty cocktails.

Big Little Grill
Big Little Grill in Elliot Stables offers some of the best steaks in Auckland. Specializing in barbecue and charcoal grilling, they serve only 100 percent New Zealand fresh lamb, beef, and chicken and locally grown fresh produce. They are open for lunch, dinner, and drinks, and try to accommodate special dietary needs.
Calamari, lamb cutlets, and seasoned lamb skewers are a few of their specialties. Their renowned chefs prepare everything to perfection and present it beautifully. Certified bar managers mix tasty cocktails to accompany your meal. The service is quick and friendly, and the prices are reasonable.

Came here on a Thursday night. There was a live band playing too which added to the ambience.
We had a scotch and a sirloin steak from here. Both steaks were done to perfection, just how we liked it. And the accompanying sauce to was nice. Can highly recommend this place, as the customer service is just as good as their food.
Jervois Steak House
Jervois Steak House is an authentic and premium steak house at Herne Bay. Their meat comes from the best beef and lamb producers, and they serve it with a choice of amazing sauces. Most cuts are from New Zealand, but they also work with some of the best meat suppliers in the world. The exposed distressed timber and brick decor makes for a warm and romantic setting.
Executive chef Gareth Stewart and his team sear steaks on the hottest broiler grills in the world at 1600 degrees F . This creates a perfect crust and locks in the flavor. Specialties are prime rib from the finest 150-day grain-fed Black Angus, Jervois cut eye fillet on the bone, and Red King Crab.
